Samsung which is not known for its rapid update rollout has recently released the new update for the AT&T Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. This update brings along the new July 2019 security update. You can read in detail about the July 2019 security update in the Android Security Bulletin. The unlocked AT&T Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus devices will receive the updates with build number G950U1UES6DSG1 and G955U1UES6DSG1, respectively. However, one thing to note is that the S8 and S8 Plus devices are two years old devices still Samsung has rolled out the latest security update which is nice for the Galaxy smartphones users.
Moreover, as the update is for the unlocked models of the AT&T Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, you can see the “U1” mentioned in the build number. This latest update does not bring along a lot of new and exciting features to the devices. There is a security update and some bug fixes and performance improvements and stability. Besides, being a two-year-old device, we did not expect the Samsung Galaxy S8 or the S8 Plus to receive any major updates since the OneUI update was rolled out. But, Samsung has understood the need and importance of the latest security updates and is rolling out the latest security patch for most of its newer as well as the some of the older smartphones as well.
Another important thing to note is that after this, the Galaxy S8 and the S8 Plus will not receive further more updates i.e. the Android Q and the OneUI 2.0. Samsung has plans of releasing the OneUI v2.0 along with the Android Q update. But, in this era of creative developers, we can expect a port or mod of the OneUI v2.0 for the older Galaxy Devices, whenever the Android Q or the OneUI v2.0 is made available by Samsung.
