New update on 1 July 2020: Users are now reporting the Asus ZenFone 5Z camera focus issue only comes into play when capturing objects or scenery in the distance. It works as expected when taking pictures of close-up objects. Several users have shared images captured from the Asus ZenFone 5Z. In most images, objects closer to the camera seem to appear in focus. Therefore, a software bug is most likely preventing the camera from focusing on objects far from the camera. Erasing the cache and camera data also does not do much good. Thus, a firmware update may be needed to fix the camera focus problem on the Asus ZenFone 5Z.

The Asus ZenFone 5Z was one of the best phones for its price back in 2018. Asus is well-known for producing some of the best value-for-money smartphones. Although, the company also doesn’t shy away from releasing premium tier devices. Asus launched the ZenFone 5Z with top-of-the-line specifications from 2018. It has the Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with 64GB internal storage and 4GB RAM in the base model. And interested buyers also had the option to go all out by opting for the 256GB storage and 8GB RAM model.

Complementing the specifications, the device was also running on the latest software version at the time. To be precise, it launched with Android 8.0 Oreo. Fast forward to now, the ZenFone 5Z is currently running Android 10. This is most likely going to be the last major OS update for the device. Fortunately, Asus still rolls out software updates to fix bugs and glitches. Previously, we reported about the touch screen issues on the ZenFone 5Z. Unfortunately, the troubles of Asus ZenFone users don’t end there.

Asus ZenFone 5Z Camera Focus and Wrong Battery Usage Stats issues

One major new issue that seems to have appeared all of a sudden is the inability of the camera to focus correctly. Several users have taken to the company’s community forums to report the issue. According to one Asus ZenFone 5Z user, the main camera produces blurred images. Moreover, it seems that the problem persisted even after the user downgraded to a previous software version. In response to the user’s complaint, an Asus moderator provided generic troubleshooting options to solve the problem. Of course, these steps do not work.

The problem seems to appear on users running the 100.10.107.70_20200320 firmware version. Although, users on older firmware such as 16.0615.1908.109 are experiencing the problem too. So it’s hard to point out the firmware version that brings the bug. Unfortunately, Asus is yet to make an official comment on this weird ZenFone 5Z camera focus bug.

The bugs don’t end there. Asus packed in a 3300 mAh battery within the ZenFone 5Z which usually lasts a full day with moderate usage. But a new bug has been plaguing ZenFone 5Z users as they are noticing the battery is draining at an abnormal rate. This problem seems to have appeared after users installed the latest security update. According to a user report, applications remain running in the background even after a reboot. And this could possibly be leading to the battery draining way quicker than it should.

In a separate complaint, another user has also reported that the battery percentage does not seem to be accurate. In the complaint, the user states that the phone displays the battery percent at 100% for a long period of time. However, after some time the battery drains rapidly.

Like with the camera bug, Asus is yet to acknowledge these battery-related problems on the ZenFone 5Z. This leads us to believe that a fix for the problems mentioned here may not arrive as soon as it should. Although, things might change if more user reports keep flooding in. Since this is a developing issue, we’d suggest staying tuned to Get Droid Tips for a follow up on the matter.
