For exchanges and refunds, Asda has some strict rules that are pretty much parallel to any other retailer company. You can return any product without specifying a problem with the product itself. Simply a change of mind is an eligible reason for a refund or an exchange. However, the time limit for these returns is restricted to 30 days unless the product that you received is faulty. Within 30 days, you can return your product with proof of purchase like receipts or credit card statements. Without proof of purchase, the company has the chance to not accept your refund request, or only offer gift cards that are usable only in ASDA. With faulty products, you have a whole year to return the product that you had bought. The 30 days limit does not apply to goods that arrived at you with some production defects. Nevertheless, there are some exceptions to these cases and some problems that customers go through despite the rules themselves. So, let’s take a look at them.

Electrical Products

Asda accepts refund or exchange requests without proof of purchase in some of the product categories, although, electrical products is not one of them. Without an original receipt that states the details of the purchase, such as the item, the transaction, cost, and the date of purchase, it is not quite possible to return an electrical product. However, if you can provide them with a printed paper bank or credit card statement, it has the potential to suffice. If you have your original receipt but not the original tender type used to make your purchase, they will issue a refund to an Asda gift card at the current selling price.

Their rule about any faulty item still applies to electrical products. If you realized that the electrical product you bought from Asda has some sort of fault that did not derive from your usage, you can return the item with its original receipt or other proof of purchase within a whole year.

Music, Video, and Games

Any digital or physical purchase that falls into these three categories can only be returned with the original receipt or proof of purchase as well. However, unlike electrical products, Asda only offers a one-time-only exchange of titles for music, video, and game purchases. This means that for a particular piece of music, video, or game you can only use their exchange or refund option once. For example, if you bought RDR2, you can return the game but not more than once. Once you return the game, you are not eligible for another refund or exchange of RDR2.

General Problems with Returns

Asda’s returns policy can be confusing sometimes and there are many people who struggle with it. For instance, although there is not a clear statement that indicates that opened games, music, or videos can not be returned, there seems to be a consensus that Asda does not refund these products once they are opened. This seems to be valid for exchanges as well. If you open and start your product that is in one of these categories, you probably will not be able to return or exchange that product within the 30 days time limit, which is applicable in other product categories. However, in order not to create confusion, this is not exactly stated in Asda’s returns policy, it is only a common struggle that the customers have suffered from.

In addition, an advert that Asda had published in 2010 which boosted the 100 days return option for several clothing categories had been criticized by customers for being in contradiction with the Sale of Goods Act, and later revoked by Asda. Their return policies have been somewhat misleading for a while.

Therefore, before starting your returning process, it is recommended by many customers to look up their exact return policies on the category that you wish to return a product. If you want to visit their official information about returns, but we would still recommend making a bit further research into your own product as well. Good luck!
