A photo from behind the scenes of Arrow shows that the cast are back on the job and ready to work on season 7. The long-running superhero show started production on its seventh season earlier this week. The sixth season of Arrow ended in turmoil and a Pyrrhic victory for the heroes of Star City. Reuniting after spending the better part of a year fighting one another over various personal differences, the reassembled Team Arrow was able to expose the corrupt police officers and politicians who were under the thumb of aspiring crime-lord Ricardo Diaz.
The victory came at a high cost, however, with Oliver Queen surrendering himself to the FBI and revealing his secret identity as Green Arrow to the world in exchange for an immunity detail for the rest of Star City’s heroes. Team Arrow also lost Quentin Lance - a former police detective turned Mayor - who sacrificed his life to save the super-villain Black Siren, who he was trying to redeem. The season ended with Diaz still at-large, Oliver Queen in a maximum security prison and John “Spartan” Diggle entrusted with a new Green Arrow costume, having already been asked to take over the name at the start of season 6.
A photo posted to the ARROWwriters Twitter account - the official account for the Arrow Writer’s Room - showed some of the actors as they arrived for the table read of the first script of season 7. This included Echo Kellum (Curtis Holt/Mister Terrific), Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak), Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow) and David Ramsey (John Diggle/Spartan).
The photo has indirectly confirmed one aspect of season 7 that Arrow-heads everywhere were excited about. It is clear from this photo that Stephen Amell is, as promised, growing out the classic Green Arrow goatee from the comics. It remains to be seen, however, how long the famous beard will remain.
Surprisingly little is known for certain about the story of Arrow’s seventh season at this time. It has been speculated, with Oliver Queen in prison, that the show may do their own spin on Supermax - a proposed Green Arrow movie, that would have seen a wrongly accused Green Arrow fighting for survival in a prison for super-villains. It is unknown for certain how long Oliver Queen will remain in prison, but Amell shot down early rumors that he would be freed after three episodes.
The fate of the rest of Team Arrow is equally unclear, though one casting report indicates plenty of new challenges for Black Canary, Mister Terrific, Wild Dog, Felicity Smoak and John Diggle, whether or not he takes up the hood of the Green Arrow again. These challenges will involve Konomi Rhodes - “a formidable fighter who ends ups clashing with the heroes of Star City” and a rookie SCPD cop named Jessie Bowden, who is determined to bring down Star City’s costumed crime-fighters at any cost. The only thing certain at this time is that the seventh season of Arrow will be one to watch!
